Enriching Undergraduate Experiences
Private contributions help Berkeley offer Freshman and Sophomore Seminars — allowing young students to take interactive classes with only 15 to 20 others and support state-of-the-art classroom technology. These funds also help ensure that Berkeley remains financially accessible to high-achieving students of all backgrounds by providing student aid.
Promoting Faculty Excellence
Berkeley’s professors are highly distinguished and productive teachers, researchers, and scholars who educate, mentor, and challenge our students. But an ever-widening salary gap — our private peers pay up to 20 percent more — is making it increasingly difficult to attract them. The Cal Fund is making a difference by supporting classroom and laboratory setup funds for new faculty and providing funding to retain faculty who are contemplating offers from other universities.

Through their research projects, our faculty and students extend the frontiers of knowledge and find new solutions to some of our most pressing global problems in health sciences, energy, and the environment.
